Mexico
Know before you go
Being from the US, Mexico is a pretty easy travel destination, which is convenient because it has grown to be one of my favorite countries in the entire world. The people are some of the most warm and fun people you’ll come across anywhere, the scenery is remarkable and hugely varied throughout the country, the food is incredible, the tequila is, well, all tequila is from Jalisco, Mexico, but the selection of things you can find and afford in Mexico is far superior of course. It seems like many people don’t realize how big Mexico actually is, and that being the case, how diverse it is. The people, the food, the drinks, the topography, everything varies state to state and city to city. But as a whole, the country gets a bad rap in the US and I’m sure Europe as well. Mexico consistently finds itself among the countries with the highest murder rates every year. It is certainly victim to some of the worst organized crime on earth, and struggles with high rates of poverty in both urban and rural areas. So is Mexico a perfectly safe destination? Of course not, but nor is any major American city. In our opinion, a little common sense goes a long way in Mexico, and we consistently find it to be a brilliant place to wander around, and have almost never felt threatened at all. We intend to spend much more time traveling through Mexico during 2022, but from the probably 10 times we have been there so far, we couldn’t recommend it more highly.
