We have had the pleasure of seeing a lot of England during multiple trips. The first time we went we stayed in London, which from our experience was a mistake. London, of course, is a city you must see, but like any other massive metropolitan center, it is expensive, crowded, and a little frustrating. On our first trip, we spent as much in a week in London as we did in the next 4-5 weeks in Europe. The second time we went was with my band for a tour and some festivals, and we got a much better taste of the country. English people are not well represented by Londoners, to start. We found the people to be absolutely charming, and the little towns to be full of life and culture. If I can recommend you do one thing in England, it might be to visit the Lake District on the center west side of the island. We camped in some train cars in the middle of rolling hills and lakes, and woke up to sheep grazing and an incredibly clear and colorful day. Apparently British colds are famously bad, and I got to experience it first hand while camping, and though I felt horrible, it wasn’t enough to spoil how pleasant of a place it was. The most important take away I had from this trip was that there is so much more to England than London and it is a shame that so few people experience it. Driving is obviously a bit of a trip if you’re from a country that drives on the right (correct) side of the road, but renting a car and experiencing it that way is highly recommended.
